Admissions

The Governing Body control pupil admissions to the school, and after consultation with the Wakefield Local Education Authority, has agreed the following policy will apply, so far as admissions to Year 7 in September 2006 are concerned:

1. Admission to the school will be made by the Governing Body. The Governors will admit two hundred and eighty (280) students into years 7—11 including 5 in the Speech and Language Resource.

2. Subject to the above over-riding consideration, admission arrangements will be as follows:

a) Looked after Catholic children.

b) Roman Catholic pupils attending one of the following RC primary schools: St Joseph’s, Pontefract; Holy Family & St. Michael’s, Pontefract; St. Joseph’s Castleford; St John’s Normanton; St Joseph’s, Moorthorpe; Sacred Heart, Hemsworth; St Benedict’s, Garforth.

c) Roman Catholic pupils who have a brother or a sister at St Wilfrid’s at the time of application.

d) Roman Catholic pupils wishing to transfer from other Roman Catholic schools.

e) Other Roman Catholic pupils.

f) Other looked after children.

g) Other pupils who have a brother or sister at St Wilfrid’s at the time of application.

h) Other pupils whose parents wish them to attend St Wilfrid’s for genuine religious reasons who attend a Roman Catholic school named in category 2b. Such must be affirmed by a written statement from an appropriate priest, minister or religious leader.

i) Other pupils whose parents wish them to attend St Wilfrid’s for genuine reasons. Such must be affirmed by a written statement from an appropriate priest, minister or religious leader.

j) Other pupils who attend a Roman Catholic school in category 2b.

k) Other pupils.




All applications for the admission of pupils should be made on appropriate pro-forma available from the school. The pale blue form to be returned to the LEA and the dark blue form returned to school no later than 20 October 2006.

If an application for admission has been turned down by the Governors, then parents can appeal against this decision. Notice of appeal must be given within twenty-one days of refusal and the full procedure will be notified to parents who write for this information to the clerk to the Appeals Committee (RC Schools), Towns Hall, Wakefield, West Yorkshire, WF1 2HQ

1. “Roman Catholic pupils” mean those pupils who have been baptised according to the rites of the Roman Catholic church.

2. If category (b) is over-subscribed, pupils who satisfy both (b) and (c) will have priority over pupils who satisfy only category (b)

3. If any of the categories (c), (d), (e), (f) , (g), (h), (i), (j) or (k) is over subscribed, a place will be allocated on a nearest to school basis by a straight line distance measure.

4. For admission purposes the home address is deemed to be where a child is habitually and normally resident with his/her parent(s) or guardian(s). The address of a carer/childminder or relative who does not have parental rights under the provisions of the Children Act must not be given. The Governors reserve the right to investigate the question of residency and to amend offers accordingly.
