The School Packed Lunch Policy

At St. Wilfrid’s we are working hard to improve our food culture. We encourage a healthy, balanced diet, using fresh locally sourced ingredients. St. Wilfrid’s has an onsite, in house catering service providing a wide range of nutritious meals, that complies with the Food for Life Partnership criteria.

A balanced lunch box should use:

FRUIT AND VEGETABLES

Include at least one portion of fruit and one portion of vegetables or salad every day

MEAT AND ALTERNATIVES
Meat, fish or another source of non-dairy protein should be included every day. Non-dairy sources of protein include lentils, kidney beans, chickpeas, hummus, peanut butter and falafel

OILY FISH

Include oily fish, such as mackerel, sardines or salmon, at least once every three weeks!

MILK OR DAIRY FOOD

A dairy food such as semi-skimmed or skimmed milk, milkshake, cheese, yoghurt, fromage frais or custard every day.

STARCHY FOOD

A starchy food such as any type of bread or pasta, rice, couscous, noodles, potatoes or others cereals, should be included every day.

DRINKING WATER OR HEALTHIER DRINKS

Free, fresh drinking water is available from the water fountains at all times, a bottle is recommended for filling. Fruit juice, milk, yoghurts and smoothies are also encouraged
